When You Have to Embrace the Unexpected...

Dad & I at his Engineers’ Awards Ceremony in 2009

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas/New Years!  Mine was a total gong show.  I’m not looking for sympathy because I believe it has made me a better person.  In fact, I believe it will also make my art better.  Time will tell, as I haven’t been in the studio since Dec. 22nd.

On the morning of Dec. 23/18 I received a phone call that my dad had a stroke and was on route to the hospital in an ambulance.  My world came to a screeching halt.  I dropped everything and drove straight to the hospital.

I missed Christmas dinner with my husband’s family.  In fact, our entire Christmas plans were thrown to the wind.  The hardest thing to digest is that I didn’t get to see my Mom (we were supposed to go to Vancouver Island for Christmas this year – ie, my Mom’s Christmas with us).

Mom was very gracious & understanding.  We still haven’t seen each other.  Neither have I painted since receiving that phone call.

The positives are that I saw my husband, children and siblings step into “Be, Do, Have” mode big time!  We had to BE committed to DO what it takes to HAVE what Dad needed.  It was a big job to get him set up for post-stroke life, but we did it.

I am blessed to have such an amazing family and supportive friends that have surrounded me with love, prayers and much-needed support.

Because every blog post must have an image, I am going to dig deep and find something that relates to this very un-art-related blog post!

Much love and blessings for a healthy, happy & peaceful 2019.  (Hoping to be filled with creative inspiration to share in a few weeks’ time!).

xoxo Jenn
